Context: the Strategic Thinking strength for founders

We have done a version of this before. Look.

What it is

They understand the present by looking backward. History is a tool, not nostalgia.

What it is not

Not Futuristic (tomorrow). Not Analytical (causes in the data). Not Intellection (ideas). Context is the backstory that makes the now make sense.

How it shows up in a founder

How this strength breaks the company

Superpowers in the company

Product

Doesn't relaunch a dead SKU with a new name. Learns from the listing that already failed.

People

Gives the team a memory. Culture has a plot, not just vibes.

Money

Stops paying tuition twice on the same mistake.

Ops

Root-cause with a timeline. Weak at a blank-sheet redesign.

You, them, co-founder

If you have it

One page of history, then a decision. The archive is a tool. It is not a home.

If they report to you

Put them on postmortems, onboarding, buyer briefings. Don't make them the owner of the next-new-thing without a Futuristic partner.

If they're a co-founder

They keep you from amnesia. You keep them from living in 2018.

Working rule

History gets one page. Then we decide as if the next season is not the last one.

Ask this

What did the last version of this teach us that changes the next bet?

Hire beside them

Futuristic, Activator, Strategic, Ideation

Someone who will still build the thing the past hasn't seen.

Tells

Starts with 'last time…' and it's useful. Brings the old file.

Stress tell

Longer origin story. The present waits.

Don't confuse with

Analytical wants causes in the data. Futuristic wants tomorrow. Context wants the backstory. Pair with Futuristic so memory doesn't trap you.
