Strategic: the Strategic Thinking strength for founders

There are five ways. I'll pick the one that works.

What it is

Pattern recognition under pressure. They see paths, discard the stupid ones, and sort the rest. Not a vibe. A sorting function.

What it is not

Not Futuristic (the picture). Not Ideation (the spark). Not Analytical (the proof). Strategic is choosing the route.

How it shows up in a founder

How this strength breaks the company

Superpowers in the company

Product

Picks the SKU, the channel, the offer architecture — and kills the rest without a funeral.

People

Gives the team a why that isn't a slogan. Can freeze them if every idea gets path-tested in public.

Money

Allocates. Says no to the pretty unprofitable thing. The most expensive word they know is 'and.'

Ops

Designs the sequence. Weak if they never write the one-page map.

You, them, co-founder

If you have it

Sort, then say the one. Write the two you killed and why. If people can't repeat the path, you didn't lead. You muttered.

If they report to you

Give them the messy problem before the plan is 'decided.' Don't hand them a single option and call it alignment. Demand a recommendation with a first step.

If they're a co-founder

They will keep you off the stupid road. You must force the close: 'this is the path for 90 days.'

Working rule

Three paths max on the page. One gets the next 90 days. The others go in a dated parking lot.

Ask this

What path did you kill last quarter, and what did we do instead?

Hire beside them

Activator, Communication, Discipline, Arranger

People who will walk the path and explain it while Strategic is already on the next fork.

Tells

Offers an 'or.' Discards fast. Draws forks, not speeches.

Stress tell

More forks. No first step. Strategy as a place to hide from a start.

Don't confuse with

Futuristic paints tomorrow. Ideation sparks. Analytical proves. Strategic picks the route. Pair with Activator so the route gets a start.
