Input: the Strategic Thinking strength for founders
Keep it. We'll need it.
What it is
A collector. Information, tools, contacts, samples, books, tabs. They feel useful when they have the thing others will ask for.
What it is not
Not Learner (the climb). Not Intellection (thinking). Not Context (the story of then). Input is acquiring and keeping.
How it shows up in a founder
- The shared drive, the swipe file, the competitor archive, the vendor folder — they built it.
- Sends you three links before the meeting. Useful, and sometimes too many.
- Can't throw away a sample, a PDF, a contact. 'What if we need it?'
- Walks a trade show like a magpie. Comes home with a bag of maybe.
- The team pings them instead of searching. They like that more than they admit.
How this strength breaks the company
- Hoard as a substitute for a decision. More files, no filter.
- Becomes a bottleneck: the knowledge lives in their folders, not in the company.
- Buys tools, courses, samples that never get used. Collector's debt.
- Meetings become show-and-tell. The point waits.
- When scared, gathers more. Research as a bunker.
Superpowers in the company
Product
A swipe file that makes the next listing faster. References, claims, images, competitor history.
People
The person you ask. Onboarding gold if they share. Silos if they don't.
Money
Stops paying twice for the same research. Can also bleed money on 'just in case' inventory of knowledge and stuff.
Ops
Documentation, DAM, CRM hygiene — if they will externalize the collection.
You, them, co-founder
If you have it
Collect with a give-by date. If it isn't tagged and shared in 14 days, it isn't an asset. It's clutter.
If they report to you
Put them on research, archives, competitive intel. Require a weekly 'what we can ignore.' Don't let the library replace the launch.
If they're a co-founder
They are the memory and the toolkit. You must force the purge and the publish.
Working rule
If it isn't shared, it doesn't count. A private archive is a hobby.
Ask this
What did you collect last month that someone else actually used?
Hire beside them
Focus, Activator, Discipline, Strategic
Someone who will spend the collection, not just grow it.
Tells
Has the link. Has the sample. Has the name. Tabs, folders, a bag.
Stress tell
More saving. More 'I'll look into it.' The pile grows, the call waits.
Don't confuse with
Learner wants the climb. Intellection wants to think. Input wants to have it. Pair with Focus so the library has a checkout desk.
