Maximizer: the Influencing strength for founders
Good is the enemy. Make it excellent.
What it is
They would rather take a 8 to a 10 than a 2 to a 6. Strengths, not gaps. Excellence is the point.
What it is not
Not Achiever (done). Not Competition (winning). Not Restorative (fix the broken). Maximizer polishes what already works.
How it shows up in a founder
- Wants the best people on the best work. Average talent on a core SKU offends them.
- Rewrites the hero listing, the keynote, the flagship SKU, again.
- Hates 'good enough for Amazon.' That's a moral error to them.
- Coaches stars, not the bottom 10%. That's where they think leverage lives.
- Will spend an extra week to make the thing actually proud.
How this strength breaks the company
- Never ships because it isn't excellent yet. The season ends at 94%.
- Ignores the broken thing that is lighting money on fire — not their genre.
- Makes the B-team feel disposable. Culture of stars and shadows.
- Over-invests in a winner past the point of return.
- When scared, polishes. Rearranges the penthouse while the basement floods.
Superpowers in the company
Product
The flagship. The listing, the unboxing, the brand moment that makes people stay.
People
A-players feel seen. Everyone else feels like a project to be avoided.
Money
Premium, not volume — unless volume is the excellence. Can overspend on the 8 that's already winning.
Ops
Wants the best process, not the adequate one. Painful in a messy build phase.
You, them, co-founder
If you have it
Excellence on the 20% that carries the brand. 'Good enough' on the rest, in writing. Ship the 8.
If they report to you
Give them the flagship. Don't give them the cleanup. Put a Restorative next to the dumpster fire.
If they're a co-founder
They will not let the company be mediocre. You must stop them from polishing while cash is dying.
Working rule
Excellence has a ship date. After that, it's vanity.
Ask this
What did you make excellent last quarter — and what did you rightly leave at good enough?
Hire beside them
Restorative, Activator, Arranger, Adaptability
Someone who will fix the ugly and ship the 8.
Tells
Talks in 8s and 10s. Wants the best person, the best SKU, the best hour.
Stress tell
More polish. Higher standard. Nothing is ready.
Don't confuse with
Achiever wants done. Competition wants to win. Restorative wants to fix. Maximizer wants excellent. Pair with Activator so the 9 actually leaves the building.
